Aussie Greens say tragedy on Nauru inevitable

The Australian Greens say a tragedy is inevitable in Nauru and Canberra must abandon its ill-fated policy of refugee resettlement on the island.

The Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, says the refugees and asylum seekers on Nauru are not safe.

Her comments comes after more reports of attacks and a threatening letter delivered across the island calling on the refugees to leave or face violence.

Ms Hanson-Young says Australia's Immigration Minister, Scott Morrison, is actively dumping people, including families and children, in harm's way.

She says the Australian policy is not a sustainable, lasting solution and she fears as the tensions increase, a serious tragedy is inevitable.
