The Samoa government-owned Polynesian Airlines has filed a new application with the United States Transport Department to continue serving American Samoa's Manu'a Islands.

It has applied to continue the Tutuila to Manu'a flights for another 90 days.

The airline's first 90-day application was filed in August, but the US Transport Department granted three 30-day cabotage waiver exemptions to operate instead.

The current exemption expires in 10 days.

The airline revealed that during September and October this year, it transported about 280 passengers between Tutuila and Pago Pago, demonstrating the need for its service.

The governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga is supporting the new application.
