American Samoa governor bemoans low productivity

American Samoa's governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, says the territory's government workforce is becoming less productive, despite more money being paid out in wages.

At a cabinet meeting, Human Resources Director Sonny Thompson presented data to show that the American Samoa Government has paid out just over 1 million US dollars in overtime and other wage-related payments since July 2013.

In response, Governor Lolo said it appears the clock is now dictating work patterns, and that employees are becoming less productive.

He says there appears to be a disconnect between public service management and staff.
