People on the island of Ambae in Vanuatu are looking forward to harvesting their first farmed fish after traditional supplies have been all but decimated by climate change.
The people in Longana decided to farm the mainly freshwater tiliapa after noticing a decline in stocks of reef fish.
Chief Dickinson Vusi says the reefs used to be rich in fish but now many more people have to spend hours catching much smaller sized specimens.
He says the sea has moved inland over the past ten years, damaging coral reefs.
Chief Vusi says the people started farming tiliapa supplied by the Fisheries Department in order to prevent over-fishing and reduce dependency on canned fish.
The stocks of tiliapa have grown from just 65 fish six months ago to two-thousand.
Chief Vusi says Longana people are now looking at farming the fish commercially.
