Solomons commended for peaceful elections

The Regional Assistance Mission is congratulating the Solomon Islands people, the Electoral Commission and the Police for conducting what it says were fair, free and peaceful elections.

RAMSI says it commends the people of the Solomons for the peaceful way in which they exercised their democratic rights.

The mission says it sends a clear message to the rest of the world that Solomon Islands is a democratic and stable member of the international community.

RAMSI says it also sends all the right signals to investors, confirming that it is a country open for business.

RAMSI supported the police by providing additional officers to help boost numbers.

However it says the Solomon Police led all security operations.
