American Samoa to build new ferry

3:05 pm on 26 November 2014

The American Samoa government has been given funding by the federal government to build a passenger and cargo ferry to operate between Tutuila and the Manu'a Islands.

The vessel, to be built in Seattle, will cost 10 million US dollars with Washington providing just over 8 million of this from its Capital Improvement Project funds.

The local government will meet the balance by issuing a bond.
