Utility threatens to cut power to CNMI govt

The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation in the Northern Marianas has threatened to cut off power to government agencies that owe it millions of dollars.

The utility has long been plagued by debts and three of its biggest customers with outstanding bills are the central government, the public school system and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation.

The central government owes the utility 3 million US dollars, the Healthcare Corporation owes 13 million and the schools owe 8 million.
