'Damaging' wind warning still in place for northern Cooks

A gale warning remains in force for the northern Cook Islands group including Manahiki, Penrhyrn and Rakahanga, with a strong wind warning in force for the rest of the northern Cook Islands.

A tropical depression is moving through the islands with average winds of 25 knots, possibly increasing to 35 knots.

Although Manahiki, Penrhyrn and Rakahanga are warned of damaging gale force with gusts up to 55 knots.

There is also the possibility of flooding of coastal and low lying areas.
