The Vanuatu government is seeking 36 million US dollars in emergency funding from the World Bank for the repairs to Bauerfield International Airport's runway.

The Joe Natuman government earlier scuttled plans by the previous government to bring in a Singaporean firm to build and operate a new airport.

It wants to improve facilities and the runway at Bauerfield instead.

Vanuatu Broadcasting report funding is being sought for the repair of the runway, the purchase of equipment and the recruitment of an expert to held develop a Vanuatu Airports' Master Plan.

The World Bank sent in assessors to look at Bauerfield in October.

In August Mr Natuman announced that China was willing to help with any repairs at the airport.
