Pacific Games infrastructure unlikely to be completed in time

Key infrastructure for the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea is unlikely to be completed by the time events begin in July.

The Post Courier says a report for the Pacific Games Venue Infrastructure and Equipment Committee highlights major concerns about progress at the Games Village, the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Complex, the Sir John Guise Indoor and Outdoor Complex and the Rita Flynn Courts.

In a statement, the sports minister Justin Tkatchenko says there are concerns about delays on some projects, but he is personally driving all efforts to ensure they are completed in time.

The report also raised concerns about the awarding of contracts, saying the process excluded the Committee's consultants, which could hamper its ability to hand over the infrastructure prior to the games.
