Papua New Guinea's Police Commissioner has ordered an immediate investigation into the controversial deaths of two people in Lae, and has sent a team of detectives from Port Moresby.

Geoffrey Vaki says the detectives will investigate the shooting of Moana Pisimi, who was killed by a bullet to the back of the head in her car early on New Year's Day, she had been chased by police and private security guards.

Mr Vaki says the investigation team was being sent from Port Moresby because Lae police are involved in the incident.

He says the team will also vigorously investigate the murder of a Singaporean businessman who found dead in his home in Lae.

Mr Vaki says police will use all available means and resources to hunt down and bring necessary charges against those responsible for the killings.
