A 26 year old optometrist in Samoa has been honoured by the Queen for leadership.

Erna Takazawa has been named as one of 60 young people from across the Commonwealth who will receive the Queen's Young Leaders Award.

The award which will be presented in London in June celebrates the achievements of young people who are taking the lead to transform people's lives and make a lasting difference in their communities.

Dr Takazawa's efforts have helped lead to free eyecare for Samoa's children and the elderly and more affordable glasses for adults.
