The Samoa police force's professional standards unit is investigating an alleged breach of duty involving the theft of school stationery from the ministry of education.
It comes after the prosecution case against a senior ministry employee was dismissed because of evidence showing information had been leaked to the defence.
The acting police commissioner, Afamasaga Michael So'onalole, says he has ordered an immediate internal investigation after the Attorney General office raised concerns about the matter.
The police officer suspected of undermining the police case has been transferred to another police outpost.
Meanwhile the senior employee of the Ministry of Education who was suspended during the investigation and the court case is being reinstated.
Two other senior employees of the Ministry of Education's corporate service have faced charges of theft as a servant and final submissions are to be heard next month.
A casual worker who was also accused in the same probe pleaded guilty to charges, including theft, and he is currently serving a two year sentence.
