World Vision's Papua New Guinea chapter says a large international grant to help fight tuberculosis in the country will complement a national TB programme which is making inroads.
The Global Fund this month announced the extension a grant of 18 million US dollars to be implemented by World Vision, aimed at reducing tuberculosis in PNG.
World Vision's PNG director Curt von Boguslawski says the grant will bolster PNG's national strategic plan on TB.
He says the focus of the plan is on managing treatment of multi-drug-resistant TB, countering TB in children and the co-infection between TB and HIV.
"With the national reporting now, we actually get the figures in. This was not the case before. So we actually get a basic management unit so the TB clinics around the country, which are close to three-hundred, are actually reporting their figures, so that drugs can be procured, so that people can be put on treatment and the disease can be brought under control."
