Sport: Pacific Oceania to enter Junior Fed and Davis Cup teams

12:03 pm on 19 February 2015

Pacific Oceania continue to expand their international programme with confirmation the region will enter teams in the Junior Davis and Fed Cup tennis tournaments in Malaysia next month.

The region has been active in the senior men's Davis Cup since 1995, and announced last year they would also return to senior Fed Cup competition in 2015, after a decade-long absence.

Fiji's Mulan Kamoe, Tammy Ackerman from the Northern Mariana Islands and Ayana Rengiil from Palau will contest the Junior Fed Cup qualifiers in Kuching.

The Vice President of the Oceania Tennis Federation, Cyrille Mainguy, says it's been difficult to find a way to enter all four teams but they've been able to source some extra funding.

"Financially I must admit it's quite tough. Luckily our President of OTF, Steve Healy from Tennis Australia, did manage to get subsidies for our Fed Cup team, because our Davis Cup team was originally budgeted for, even though it was sort of mentioned that if the Davis Cup team don't do good last year that this year we may have to switch to the girls team".

Cyrille Mainguy says dates for the senior men's and women's competitions are yet to be confirmed with the original February and July dates now unlikely.
