NZ and Pacific develop climate change strategies

4:21 pm on 20 February 2015

A workshop in Auckland today is aiming to help Pacific Island countries develop their responses to climate change.

New Zealand's minister for climate change issues, Tim Groser, says the Pacific Islands are some of the vulnerable states to the impacts of climate change.

He says at the UN climate change conference in Paris in December each nation has been asked to make a contribution.

At the workshop New Zealand is sharing its planned contribution for the Paris meeting and wants to hear about the experiences of Pacific Island countries as they work on their responses.

Mr Groser says if New Zealand can help Pacific countries to formulate targets that make sense in terms of their priorities this will help ensure the Paris agreement delivers a durable, globally effective climate change agreement.
