An Australian refugee advocate says an Iranian couple on Nauru were hospitalised after being attacked by locals throwing rocks.
Ian Rintoul says the married couple were riding a motorcycle late on Monday night when they were hit by a shower of rocks, near the Menon Hotel.
He says the motorcycle crashed after the male driver was knocked unconscious.
Our attempts to seek a response from authorities on Nauru have been unsuccessful, though earlier this month the deputy police chief Kalinda Blake confirmed there was growing animosity between locals and the refugees.
Ian Rintoul says this is the latest in a series of incidents in which locals have thrown stones at refugees.
