Delay in start to new Tonga offices

The Tonga government is to delay starting work on a new office block until after the coronation of King Tupou VIth.

The finance minister, Aisake Eke, says they are delaying it so that more space is available for the celebrations.

Radio Tonga reports the project, to be known as St George Palace, is being funded with a grant of $12 million US dollars.

Mr Eke says the government will provide up to 25 percent of the cost of the building which will house the prime minister's office, Tonga police and the ministry of finance.

He says China will be doing the construction in a similar fashion to what happened in the rebuild of Nuku'alofa.
