A former Papua New Guinea government minister has had three years added to his nine year jail term over the misuse of funds.

The Post Courier reports that the National Court decision relates to the use of over one million US dollars of funding by Paul Tiensten that was intended for the rehabilitation of a plantation in East New Britain.
Tiensten, who was the Minister for Planning and Monitoring, will now serve 12 years at Bomana jail.
He was found guilty of one count of official corruption, on count of obtaining goods by false pretence and one count of misappropriation.
Tiensten was inititally sentenced in 2014 to 9 years in prison with hard labour for misappropriating a sum of 3-point-8 million.
A by-election for Tiensten's Pomio electorate is due to be held next month.
