A recent increase in burglaries on Saipan has prompted the CNMI chief of police to assure the community that burglars will be brought to court.

The Department of Public Safety Commissioner, James Guerrero, says the police will build the capacity of its investigative function so that it has better resources to pursue thieves.

However he says repeat offenders need to be jailed for longer periods as a method to bring down the statistics of theft.

Mr Guerrero says he hopes the Board of Parole will not release repeat offenders before proper rehabilitation.
