Samoa teacher arrested on sexual assault allegations

7:15 pm on 30 April 2015

Police in Samoa are investigating a 40-year-old primary school teacher after he was arrested for alleged sexual misconduct involving underage boys.

However, the president of Victim Support, Siliniu Lina Chang, says the investigation is facing challenges because several alleged victims are not coming forward and relatives of boys involved have been reluctant to cooperate.

The Ministry of Education's school operation division says it received a report about the allegations from the school's principal.

A senior officer says the allegations are serious and the teacher is being held in police custody for questioning.
