Three police officers in Papua New Guinea's Central Province have been charged with four counts of armed robbery, stealing with violence and official corruption.

PNG Loop reports the arrests are in relation to an incident in March where a group of officers held up betel nut sellers along the Hiritano highway and made off with almost 200 bags of buai.

Central police commander, Laimo Asi, says three more personnel will be arrested and charged before the end of the week.
