Rota island was the worst hit of the Northern Marianas group with reports of extensive damage and people still housed in the local evacuation centre while Saipan and Tinian fared better.

Our correspondent in CNMI Mark Rabago says Rota's Mayor Efraim Atalig has lifted the typhoon alert and confirmed there were no casualties from the storm but says it is still not clear whether a state of disaster will be declared for the island.

" You have to have like one million dollars of crops damaged and also infrastructure damage before that kind of assistance would be provided by the federal government. So they are still assessing right now together with other federal officials. They are down in Rota right now trying to see if the damage inflicted by Typhoon Dolphin would need a state of emergency or a disaster emergency."
