More blocks for Aust man over Nauru deportation

8:29 pm on 2 June 2015

An Australian man, who was a former high ranking official in the Nauru government, is facing more legal blocks in his attempts to overturn his deportation 17 months ago.

Rod Henshaw had been the government's media director, but in early 2014 he and a number of other Australians who had filled key roles in its administration, were controversially removed.

Mr Henshaw is challenging the deportation and other matters which the Nauru government is trying to strike out.

In the latest development his lawyer Australian Jay Williams has been denied a visa which Nauru's secretary of justice, Lionel Aingamea, has agreed to review.

"That was supposed to be handled with the strike out motion next week (June 8th) but obviously Jay Williams will not be able to make that because it is still subject to judicial review, so it is going ahead without my barrister, which I find rather curious."
