A Fiji national has managed to leave Vanuatu after paying a hefty immigration penalty with a dud cheque.
The man was in the country illegally after entering using false documents.
An Immigration Department source in Vanuatu says the man was directed by the courts to pay 250 thousand vatu, or just over $US2,300 dollars.
His cheque bounced after he had left the country.
In another case immigration issue officials are seeking a Fijian couple who moved to Vanuatu in 2009, and then got citizenship after a year.
The couple, now thought to be in Luganville, had claimed they had met the criteria for citizenship by being in the country for the required ten years.
