First of Australia's refugees due in Cambodia today

4:17 pm on 4 June 2015

Cambodia is today expecting the arrival of four refugees who are the first to agree to take part in a resettlement deal brokered with Australia for transfer from Nauru.

The Phnom Penh Post and Cambodia Daily Times report that the government confirmed the three Iranians and a Burmese man were expected to arrive on an Air Malaysia flight.

The Cambodia Daily reports that Canberra has maintained a near-complete media blackout on the deal since Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop visited the country last year.

The newspaper, The Australian, says human rights and refugee advocates who regularly spoke with members of the group said they had been unable to make contact with them after they were transferred to Darwin last month.
