The Fiji Under 20 football team fly home after ending their World Cup journey yesterday with a 3-0 defeat to Uzbekistan in Whangarei.

The Melanesians held their more-fancied opponents scoreless in the first half but conceded two goals in two minutes just after the hour mark to end their hopes of creating further history, with the third goal coming deep in stoppage time.

The result follows a heavy defeat to Germany and stunning victory over Honduras in their previous group matches.

Coach Frank Farina says the players are disappointed not to progress to the last 16 but he is proud of the team and says they showed that given an opportunity they can compete at that level.

He says to have a chance of going through at the last game was a dream, but unfortunately the dream didn't come true.
