Sport: Samoa's preparations for Commonwealth Youth Games praised

8:51 am on 11 June 2015

The CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation, David Grevemberg, spent two days in Apia this week.

He visited venues for the athletes' villages and was given a tour of Apia Park and the Faleata sports complex.

Mr Grevemberg then shared his positive feedback when he met the Prime Minister and chairman of the Games' organizing committee, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi.

"I think there's no question that the facility that's being built in advance of the upcoming All Blacks Samoa rugby game is world class on every level. There is still work to be done but the plans are being put forward. If all of that is delivered and we sent a team two weeks ago that gave some recommendations and so forth, and there's a real commitment and enthusiasm and determination from the organising committee to make this good for not only the guests but also the people of Samoa".

The Samoa government has allocated two and half million US dollars in the new financial year budget for hosting the games.
