Papuan civilian allegedly shot at by drunk soldier

A civilian has been hospitalised in Indonesia's Papua province after he was allegedly shot at by a drunk soldier.

The Jakarta Post reports that 33-year-old civil servant, Jimmi Winata, was airlifted to the provincial capital, Jayapura, for treatment last week after sustaining wounds to his back.

The director of the military hospital, Colonel Didik Catur Prasetyo, says Mr Winata was injured after the bullet bounced off a wall and broke into several fragments which entered his back.

The soldier involved, Second Sergeant Benedictus Umarop, has been arrested and has had is assault rifle taken off him.
