The Pacific Games Council says it is comfortable with the progress being made towards the 2017 Mini Games in Vanuatu, in the continuing aftermath of Cyclone Pam.
Demolition work was due to begin in March on the main stadium in Port Vila, but was delayed following the Cyclone.
The Chief Executive of the Mini Games, Joe Bomal Carlo, says they are waiting to hear from
the Chinese contractors about when work will resume.
The Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council, Andrew Minogue, says all of the stakeholders in Vanuatu from the government to the sportspeople want to press ahead with the games for the recovery of the country.
"It's really just a question of when they get started on that work and once the Chinese government turns their attention to starting with the contruction of these facilities they get them done fairly quickly so, from the Pacific Games Council perspective, we're comfortable with that. I think what we're now looking for, to work with our partners over in Vanuatu, is just to make sure that they learn from the experience in Port Moresby over the next few weeks, just to make sure that that organising committee starts to gets staffed up and plans in place to be able to stage these Games in two years time".
