Most of Bougainville Cabinet named

The President of Bougainville, John Momis, has appointed seven members to his government's Bougainville Executive Council, with more appointments expected later.

Albert Punghau retains the finance portfolio with former regional member in the Papua New Guinea parliament, Fidelis Semoso, given the new post of economic development.

The first woman to win an open seat, Josephine Getsi, has been made community development minister as the nominee of the four women MPs.

Mr Momis retains the role of inter-government relations.

New Dawn FM reports him saying the ministers are on notice to perform with an assessment planned after 6 months.

The President says the government's first task is to revitalise the Bougainville public service. to ensure it is lean and able to operate efficiently.

Mr Momis says the bureaucracy will undergo significant change to save on costs and avoid the mismanagement of public funds and government assets.
