A former vice president of Palau, Kerai Mariur, is facing serious criminal charges.

Oceania TV News says the charges include one count of violating the code of ethics and one of misconduct in public office.

Mr Mariur has yet to publicly respond to the charges against him.

He is the second high-ranking politician from the previous administration to face criminal charges after the arrest of the former Ngiwal governor and current House of Delegates representative, Masasinge Arurang.

Mr Arurang's charges concern the illegal sale of a personal vehicle through the state government.
