Sport: Tahiti fall to Portugal in Beach Soccer World Cup final

11:50 am on 20 July 2015

Tahiti have fallen at the last hurdle, beaten 5-3 by hosts Portugal in the final of the Beach Soccer World Cup.

The Tiki Toa went behind in the opening seconds of the match, and trailed 3-0 early in the second period before Tearii Labaste and Raimana Li Fung Kuee got the Oceania champs within striking distance.

But it wasn't to be as Portugal found the net two more times, either side of Li Fung Kuee's second, to complete a deserved victory and cue wild celebrations from the home fans at Espinho Stadium.

Despite coming up short, Tahiti created history by becoming the first Oceania team to contest a World Cup final, improving on their fourth-placed finish two years ago on home soil.
