Fiji: the Geneva of the Pacific

1:54 pm on 24 July 2015

Fiji's Minister of Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there's a wonderful opportunity ahead for Fiji to become the Geneva of the Pacific.

He was speaking as he accepted a dividend payout from the national airline which is majority owned by the government.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum told Fiji One News Fiji Airways has a crucial role to play in providing air connectivity.

"Fiji can become what we would like to call the Geneva of the Pacific. As you see there are many international organisations that are based in Fiji and many more can be based in Fiji and so it is critical therefore that our national carrier does play an important role."

The government received a dividend of just over one million US dollars following last year's record profit of nearly 28 and a half million US dollars.
