Change of police command in Papua's Tolikara

7:57 pm on 29 July 2015

The police commander in Tolikara in Indonesia's Papua has been re-assigned nearly two weeks after a riot, in which kiosks and a musholla or small mosque, were burnt down.

The removal of commander Soeroso was completed in Jayapura on Monday.

But the Jakarta Post reports the Papua Police deputy chief Brigadier General Albert Rudolf Rodja saying the replacement of Soeroso is routine and not related to the recent incident in Tolikara.

Security forces fired warning shots to disperse a crowd of about 200 after they reportedly disrupted an Islamic prayer meeting and attacked a mosque in Tolikara, Papua.
