CNMI's Saipan bears brunt of typhoon

Saipan in the CNMI has taken the brunt of Typhoon Soudelor, with some 80-90 percent of trees down.

Our correspondent there, Mark Rabago, says tree branches have been bent like toothpicks.

He says windows not boarded up were no match for the strong winds, and neither were houses with tin roofs made of light materials.

Mr Rabago says government is off today due to the typhoon, which was at its strongest after 11pm last night, when howling winds seemed to make the most damage.
