Australia gives Cooks minibus for disabled children

8:28 am on 4 August 2015

Australia is donating a specially equipped school minibus for disabled children in the Cook Islands as its contribution to the island nation's 50th anniversary celebrations.

The Cook Islands marks 50 years of self government in free association with New Zealand on Wednesday.

Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss is to represent his Government at the event.

He will join a large New Zealand parliamentary contingent, led by John Key, and representatives from most Pacific nations.

In a statement Mr Truss says the bus will supplement existing Australian disability initiatives in the Cook Islands and the country's Disability Development Policy and Action Plan, which was announced last month.
