Samoan RWC team highlights new depth

11:53 am on 13 August 2015

The Samoa rugby coach, Steven Betham, says the naming of his rugby world cup squad has highlighted the depth available to the islands.

A number of experienced and talented players have been left on the sidelines but Betham says at least one of them could be called upon if needed.

The 31-man squad for next month's event is missing players like Sinoti Sinoti, Paul Williams and Faifili Levave.

Betham says experienced prop Census Johnson was also not included because of club committments.

"He's come to an agreement with his club that he will be available for the world cup but just during all this preparation, he has to play all his club games. So if called upon, he's available when the world cup starts."

The 31-man squad for next month's event is missing players like Sinoti Sinoti, Paul Williams and Faifili Levave but Coach Steven Betham says a number of players took their opportunities during the recent Pacific Nations Cup.
