Vanuatu Biosecurity firm on illegal food imports

3:44 pm on 21 August 2015

Biosecurity authorities in Vanuatu have promised to punish a Chinese company over illegal food imports.

Biosecurity officers have found cartons of undeclared frozen chicken, vegetables and honey at the back of a container.

The Director of Biosecurity Timothy Tumukon says a ban on animal products including chicken legs from Asia is to keep Vanuatu free from plant and animal diseases including bird flu.

Mr Tumukon says every importer is made aware of import rules.
