CNMI signs budget bill into law

A Government shutdown has been averted in the Northern Marianas after Governor Eloy Inos signed the US$145-million US budget bill into law.

He said he is approving the budget to allow uninterrupted recovery efforts to go on, nearly two months after Typhoon Soudelor ravaged Saipan.

The passage of fiscal year 2016 appropriations measure, however, comes with Governor Inos vetoing certain items that are considered unconstitutional by the Attorney General's Office.

In signing the budget bill, the CNMI governor commended the House of Representatives, Senate leadership and members for their hard work.
