The Samoa Schools rugby team have finished winless in the international Tri-Series in Brisbane after being thrashed 66-12 by the Australian Barbarians.

Following heavy defeats to New Zealand and Australia's top teams, Samoa had high hopes of a breakthrough win but found themselves trailing 42-5 at halftime.

Vaifagaloa Mamoe scored Samoa's only first-half try, scooping up the loose ball following a dropped ball.

The Samoans opened the scoring a few minutes after halftime through left-winger Ausage Ausage before the Barbarians ran in four more tries to complete a comprehensive victory.

Head coach Etimani Faamoetauloa says more games against the trans-tasman rivals would help their development.

"We would love to get invited every year. The only way we can improve at rugby is playing overseas and let the boys experience the high level of rugby over here and [it's] the only thing I think that can improve our rugby back home. Practice makes perfect and if we come every year for sure it would help a lot with our Samoan schools rugby."
