Vanuatu minister labels international fora a 'waste of time'

A Vanuatu cabinet minister says his country's participating in regional and international meetings is a waste of time as they are of little benefit.

Christophe Emmelee made the comments after returning from a forestry meeting in Fiji.

He says there are good resolutions and recommendations, but they take too long to be realised to benefit the people of Vanuatu.

Mr Emmelee says Vanuatu taxpayers are spending money to send leaders to meetings while people are suffering from a shortage of food and water because of the current drought.
