Papua New Guinea have made a horror start to the Under 19 Cricket World Qualifying tournament in Malaysia.

After being put into bat the Garamuts collapsed to an astonishing 23 for 9 against Nepal before eventually being dismissed for a paltry 48 all out.

Tailenders Nou Toua and Lohia Guba added 25 runs for the final wicket and were the only two batsmen to reach double figures.

Nepal made swift work of their run-chase, reaching their target in the ninth over for the loss of just one wicket.

PNG have no time to dwell on the result - their next pool match against Ireland starts this afternoon.

The overall winner will claim the final qualifying berth for next year's Under 19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Fiji have already qualified as winners of the Eeast Asia Pacific Under-19 Trophy in February.
