Australian Foreign Minister to PNG today

10:50 am on 6 November 2015

The Australian foreign minister, Julie Bishop, travels to Papua New Guinea today to open the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct.

The Precinct is an Australian backed initiative to develop leadership skills among the next generation in PNG.

Ms Bishop says she will also visit the Highlands with her PNG counterpart Rimbink Pato and discuss how to best assist the drought response.

She says she will also launch the New Colombo Plan in PNG, which aims to give Australian students a deeper understanding of PNG.

Ms Bishop says by the end of next year about 60 Australian students will have lived, worked and studied in PNG.
