Six food and beverage exporters from small Pacific countries are in New Zealand this week to learn more about breaking their products into a larger export market.

Pacific Islands Trade and Invest's Teremoana Mato says Pacific exporters are faced with challenges such as competing against products from bigger countries and high shipping costs.

The delegates will attend workshops on import regulations, barriers to trade, sanitary requirements, and will visit customs, buyers and hospitality representatives.

They will also meet with some of New Zealand's top Pacific chefs who will share their experiences of sourcing and using Pacific ingredients.

The delegates' products include pandanus juice, vanilla products and wine and liquers made from locally grown fruits.
