The Fiji government says applications from foreign investors are up more than a third on last year.

In his budget speech the Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum reported the country's investment agency Investment Fiji has issued 228 foreign investment registration certificates in the past eight months.
The value of the proposed investments was put at more than US$335 million and they include 2,903 new jobs.
The applications are up 39 percent over last year and are in sectors ranging from services to utilities and manufacturing.
