The administrator of Papua New Guinea's Morobe province Patilias Gamato has been appointed as the country's new Chief Electoral Commissioner.
The Post Courier reports Mr Gamato is taking on the role after Sir Andrew Trawen stepped down last week.
Sir Andrew had 14 years in the post and, according to the paper, he told the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill his successor must be adequately financed in order to conduct the elections which are due next year.
Mr Gamato says the commissioner's role is a huge task but he is confident on delivering to the people.
