An American Samoa high school student has conducted research on the use of the breadfruit flower as a mosquito repellent.

Robert Currie, who attends South Pacific Academy, says he found burning a male breadfruit flower is an effective repellent for mosquitoes.
According to Mr Currie, Hawaiians and Micronesians have been using the breadfruit male flower as a mosquito repellent for generations.
His research found that the breadfruit flower is an economical and environmentally friendly solution as opposed to buying imported repellents.
Mr Currie was one of 10 high school finalists who presented his research work at the 28th American Samoa Science Symposium.
