Fiji police identify plotters, deny finding beating suspects

3:40 pm on 27 November 2015

Fiji's acting police commissioner has denied a Fiji Times report that police have identified those suspected of beating an internet cafe owner, Rajneel Singh.

The man claimed to have been beaten by police after he told them about an email found in his cafe about an alleged plot to kill all government MPs.

Brigadier Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho says police updates have been misunderstood and the alleged assailants have not been identified.

He says police only have the identities of those who were allegedly plotting to destabilise government.

The police say there is no timeframe as to when the investigations will be completed, and he has asked the public not to speculate on their outcomes.

It is not known if Mr Singh is still in hospital where he was under guard by the military.
