The Ports Authority in the Northern Marianas remains opposed to the US military's plans to create a diversion airfield in the territory, despite revisions to its plan.

In a meeting last week, board members restated their opposition to the creation of a secondary airfield on either Saipan or Tinian in case the Air Force base in nearby Guam becomes inoperable.

The US Air Force had submitted a revision to its plan, which it now calls a "hybrid divert plan", which substituted fighter jets with aircraft tankers, among other changes.

But the authority still refuses to approve the plan.
